Week Five

I hope you all enjoyed your week off from the blog but now it's back to the grind of posting, reading, and responding. First I want to say that you all did good during week three posting - it was really interesting to read what you all chose to write about. For this week I want to give you all some freedom again but I want you to do it under the pretense that you create a conversation with your classmates. You can write about something going on in the news, on campus, in your life, or anything like that. After you start your conversation you need to become active in several other conversations (that means you need to not only respond but check back and see where the conversation goes and if respond again if you need to or want to). You need to become active in at least three posts other than yours (I know that seems like a lot but it really isn't). Use the comment function on the blog for the conversation. Lets try to get a few really good conversations started!

I'll start!
One of my new years resolutions was to be more spontaneous and the first act was going to Chicago totally out of the blue for New Years Eve. I drove to my best friends house the day before New Years Eve and while driving I though, I want to go to New York City. When I got to her house I sai "Let's go!" We decided it'd be too hard to get a hotel room in New York but thought Chicago was probably doable. We went to her computer, looked up some hotels, called the first one we liked and they had available rooms. That night we made reservations, packer her stuff, and headed to my apartment in Toledo where we stayed the night. The next morning (New Years Eve) we got up at 5 am, drove to Chicago, and had a blast! We stayed in the best hotel , met up with a friend I graduated with for dinner, went to a jazz bar, did MAJOR shopping, and came back on the 2nd (we were going to come back on the first but we had too much fun and decided to stay an extra day). It was the greatest!

  • California sounds like fun! I've never flown - I'm terrified! I want to go to Italy this year though...the problem is I too am a student and I make very little money!! I have an uncle though who might be in Italy for work for a few weeks and he talked about letting me come stay with him. We'll see though. As for paying for Chicago...I have a maxed out credit card that I'm making payments on but it was totally worth it! When I was a freshman (heck, an undergrad for that matter!) the farthest I ever went was Windsor and even then I stayed in a friend's dorm room because I couldn't afford anything better.

However, a good, close place to "get away" for a while that is Ann Arbor. It's only about an hour away and is a wonderful town! You can spend the day hanging out downtown (my best friend's dad owns a shop on main street so if you go you have to stop at Falling Water), have some great food, maybe catch a concert at The Ark and still drive home so you don't have to pay for a hotel room (although the Red Roof Inn in Ann Arbor is cheap and decent, and the Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Ypsilanti has a CUTE British guy that works there...some time I'll post about "The Debacle of Spring Break 2004" where I found all of this out).

  • Chicago is a good place to go for a "spontanious" trip because it's drivable and though it's a little costly, it's not as bad as some places! Cleveland would also be fun - I was born there but haven't been back since I was like 7.

So I have pretty much finalised my spring break plans (not spontanious but whatever). I'm going to spend half of the time in Ann Arbor (at my friend's dad's) and half of the time in Sidney (at my mom's). It's no Italy but I just found out my uncle hasn't left for his next job yet so Italy could still happen!
